Woa boy, it's been a minute since I've updated this blog. I guess I lost myself somewhere around 2016. Updates: I got a new job, then I got a certification to be a CCMA, then got another new job - not using the previously mentioned certification in any way shape or form. Despite fate dealing me cards from a completely different deck, I think my current situation is more my pace anyway. I'm just thankful I can do my artwork for me again instead of constantly fighting the worry about money, marketing, and not being competitive enough.
Fighting mental blocks, health problems, and space issues, I walked away from painting and drawing (digitally and traditionally) and explored embroidery a little. It was a good experience and has brought up some new ideas for mixed media projects. I really want to give embroidery an updated feel, you know - take it away from teddy bears on burp clothes and grandma style tea towels. Sorry grandmas.
With any luck, more to come. I'll try to hold myself to it.
I wanted to try and hold myself to posting more sketchbook work. I'm working with limited resources at the moment so this was done in a small sketchbook with a basic 2b mechanical pencil - so excuse the lack variation in shade and line width.
What good news for this month! I've been invited to work as a temporary image editor for WMF Photography and Print Solutions in Liverpool, NY. I am assisting in editing school photos and finally I've figured out the mystery behind my horrible school pictures...Puberty and general awkwardness, haha!
So since I seem to be getting some experience in photography thanks to my boyfriend's fancy camera I've posted a separate website for my photo editing and general photography. Please feel free to browse around.
Here's hoping for some more good news!
Got another feature on MetalSucks.com. No mention of my work for you are the alien in the comments or in the article but maybe it needs a few hours to settle into the MetalSucks feed. In any case, if you'd like to take a look at the article you stroll on over there: http://www.metalsucks.net/2014/05/06/3-think-alien/ .
Hurray! A new release today! I have to say I'm enjoying every moment working with the nice gentlemen at 3, and it doesn't hurt that I absolutely adore their music too.
I recently finished another illustration for the lovely band 3. On May 3rd they will release their second single off their new album, "you are the alien". I was given very specific directions to create the look of a hand written love letter to a face superimposed over stars. Thanks to their direction I think that it's one of my prettiest illustrations yet.
There is a four hour event scheduled for the release of you are the alien on Radio Xenu make sure you don't miss it.
A shirt design I did using Pierre Dénys de Montfort's classic Kraken pen and wash drawing is now for sale on 3's website: www.theband3.com. Make sure to pick one up! I have one myself and these are some very comfortable shirts.
I'm absolutely thrilled to see that Josh Eppard and Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria as well as Josh's group Weerd Science have spread the word about Sugarlife. I'm excited to see what next month's single will bring.
